The current work instruction is the one the team finds
SOPs and work instructions live in binders, on a shared drive, and on laminated sheets at the station, and the copy at the station is rarely the current one. We move them into a versioned, signed, attributed record, so the instruction the team pulls up is the one in force.
The copy at the station is not the current revision
An SOP gets updated on the shared drive. The laminated sheet at the line does not. A work instruction changes, and the change reaches whoever was in the room, not the next shift.
The current revision, who approved it, and who has read it sit in different places, or nowhere at all. So the team runs on the copy nearest to hand, and no one can say for certain it is the right one.
Every instruction becomes a versioned, signed, attributed record
We move SOPs and work instructions into a database and enforce the lifecycle in software: draft, in-review, approved, effective, signed with re-authentication, and no one approves their own work. Every document carries its own attributes, so the team filters and searches for the instruction it needs instead of hunting a folder tree. The revision it finds is the effective one, and the record shows who wrote it, who approved it, and when.
A change reaches the floor, not just the last person in the room
When a revision goes effective, the superseded one stops being findable, so no one keeps working off it. The record of who has read the current instruction tells a supervisor where the change has landed and where it has not. The instruction is current the day it ships, not the day someone remembers to swap the binder.
