A procurement desk runs seven jobs at once: supply planning, demand planning, ordering, vendor analysis, MRO, forecasting, supplier strategy. Most of it is repetitive work on data that is hard to reach, so the desk spends its day fetching and re-keying instead of buying.
We built the data layer before any agent, then the agent architecture on top, then the workflows, with a person in the validation seat. Agent-first is the common mistake: point models at a function before the data is reachable and you get confident answers with nothing under them.
The agents took the repetitive work off the desk. The team kept its structure and its judgment, and stopped being the layer that moved data by hand.
